Wysong™ Corporation, which operates out of Midland Michigan, issued an updated recall on October 27, 2009, for its Wysong dry extruded dog food brand. The affected dates include batches manufactured during the months of June, July, and August 2009. The original recall was issued on October 12, 2009.
The recall was expanded due to additional batches being found with mold contamination. The batches affected include Wysong Maintenance™ lot numbers 090617, 090624, 090706, 090720, and 090817; Wysong Senior™ lot numbers 090623 and 090811; and Wysong Synorgon™ lot number 090629.
The batches in question came about due to a faulty moisture-checking device, which caused mold to form within the affected dog food. High humidity on the dates on which the batches were produced made the problem worse.
While high levels of mold can cause a problem for pets, especially when it comes to mycotoxins, the batches affected tested negative for such toxins. The worse that pet owners can expect if their pets consumed the food in the recalled batches is a loose stool, a condition that should clear up upon switching to an unaffected product.
For customers who purchased the recalled batches, Wysong™ recommends that they contact the point of purchase to see about a refund or an exchange.
