Steve’s Real Food issued a recall on March 7, 2013, for some of its Turducken Canine Diet products. The product in question was potentially contaminated with the Salmonella bacteria.
The recalled product, 5-lb bags of Turducken Canine Diet in 8-oz patty form, were distributed between October 2012 and January 2013 at locations across the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, California, Minnesota, and Tennessee. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture noticed the potential for contamination of the product from a sample they tested. Pet owners who think they might have bought the products should look for 5-lb green and cream-colored bags with lot number 209-10-27-13 and a “best by” date of 10/27/13.
Salmonella can cause a variety of symptoms, including abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever in pets and humans. Pets might also exhibit loss of appetite or sluggish behavior as well. If pet owners suspect that they or their pets have been exposed to Salmonella bacteria, they should seek the advice of a health professional.
