I have two GSP’s, the collars have worked great for 6 months. I have had to change batteries once in 6 months. The male has started to test the collar and if it isn’t tight, he will go exploring! I just ordered the stubborn collar for him and will provide feedback on that collar when I get some time with it. In general they work good! Do be careful when changing the probes, I broke one off when putting the receiver on a new collar. They do snap off easily!

I have 6 small rescue dogs, we bought this house on 2.6 acres in 2018 and planted the invisible dog fence system immediately. The dogs took two days of training on leads, then we let them go. They know exactly how far they can go before they get a warning beep, they have the ultimate freedom to snuffle, chase deer, squirrel, bunnies etc and have a great life. Batteries are expensive but we now only change them a couple of times per year. End of April 2022 now and one collar unit broke, we need to replace it but in its’ defense, a coyote carried the dog off last year, crossed the fence line and was shocked, so dropped the dog. Hundreds of stitches later, the dog is fine and not a scar on him. So thank you extreme! Wonderful product.

I’ve had this receiver system for almost a year now and my dogs stay in. They know the boundary and won’t even risk it if our winter free range rabbit is in sight but near the fence line even though they would like to. The rabbit also knows where they can and can’t go it seems. However, it is very easy when changing the receiver to a different collar to brake off a prong. Too easy in my opinion. I snapped off one after having to replace the collars this comes with and had to purchase another receiver. On that note, here is why I only give these 4 stars; (1) The collar it comes with has a plastic snap. Once my dogs figured out the collars were the issue, they began to systematically chew each other’s collars until they broke the plastic. I replaced the collars with leather collars that had regular metal clasps and punched my own holes. This solved the collar problem; (2) Unfortunately I snapped off a prong when attaching the unit to the new collar and had to buy a new unit; (3) The dogs finally chewed through one of the receivers and it snapped off the base. I really don’t think it should have been able to come apart that easily, but it did, so I’m here buying another receiver. Since this will likely continue to be an issue, I am going to have to build an enclosure around the unit to deter my dog from trying to chew threw it. I think these two areas of the product are the weakest from the perspective of dog chewing. Dogs chew on things and mine seem to understand the collars are what keep them contained.
The product otherwise works very well, and the batteries last a long time. I think batteries are a better option than constantly having to recharge collars. I have the heaviest gauge wire going around about an acre and it keeps them contained and I’ve had no issues with the wire even though it isn’t buried everywhere. However, I think from a manufacturing standpoint, it is foreseeable that the three issues I’ve had with the units might happen to other customers. I noted someone else in the comments broke off a prong as well. For the price I would expect these collars to be more rugged and resistant to dogs chewing on them. Perhaps that is something Extreme could look at.

The system was working well for about a year. Batteries started to be a problem after that. They just weren’t lasting. I spoke with Extreme about it and they sent replacement sets of batteries and also added some insight as to how to figure out what was wrong. Finally, the collar completely failed. Stuff breaks but what was important to me was that Extreme stood behind their product and warranties in the most helpful and knowledgeable way. Kudos to their staff on their courtesy and customer service. I now have a new collar, more batteries and all is well with the system. Thanks Erin!

I have had this system for over 3 years. It works and the company is extremely easy to work with on warranty items. They do stand behind the product which is rare these days. I have a system that encloses 5 acres and I also have it running in the house to keep the dog out of areas he’s not allowed in. The collars are the weak part of the system. I am going on my third one now. The first collar held up well and the batteries lasted from 6 to 8 months. The second collar the batteries are lucky to last a week and the collar seems to be intermittent at best. I just requested a replacement so we will see how the third one does. Batteries are costly for what they are but if they last for 6 to 8 months as they should with a dog that does not test the boundary then it is worth it for me. My only advice for Extreme is my original collar did very well with battery life and I see over the years the quality of the batteries have seemed to diminish reading reviews, maybe its time to buy some duracell batteries to shrink wrap in those packs, just a thought!

I recently left a review for this collar, three stars I believe, because I’ve had a couple of collars stop working. The plastic is a somewhat brittle. However, I forgot about the five year warranty.
I just called about my collar that stopped working and it’s being replaced. Not only that, but I bought a replacement for another collar a few months ago, forgetting about the warranty and they are refunding that purchase for me. This company stands behind their products and their warranty!

Our collar worked great but has stopped working completely. We have had our system for less than a year. Too expensive to have to replace every 10 months.

Purchased the Extreme Active dog fence in August, have a golden retriever pup that we placed collar on. She learned the boundaries pretty quickly but now 3 months later she is getting through the boundary. I first thought it was a low batter so proceeded to buy fairly expensive batteries. Installed new batteries in collar and she continued to get through. Went through checks and held collar up to transmitter on wall and it beeped so I then went out in yard where wire is buried and it also beeped. I replaced prongs on collar to longer ones as I thought there was a contact issue. I went to wall transmitter and changed settings to the highest possible. After that I thought we were in the clear but she keeps getting out. Not sure whether the dog is outsmarting the fence or what’s going on. Was fairly impressed with system at first but now I’m thinking I could have saved time and money on installation of this system and went a different route
