Carolina Prime® Pet, Inc. voluntarily recalled some lots of its Priority™ Total Pet Care All Natural Bullstrips dog treats on November 20, 2012. The reason given for the recall was because of possible contamination’s of the affected product with Salmonella bacteria.

The affected product includes five-count packages of Priority™ Total Pet Care All Natural Bullstrips dog treats, with UPC code 0-21130-42080-3 and lot codes 20082712 S3195 and 20090312 S3195. Consumers can find the UPC on the back label of the packaging, while the lot code is on a sticker on the back of each five-count product.

The retail locations where the product was shipped to include Safeway stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Maryland, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, South Dakota, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Wyoming. The affected product was also sold at Vons, Pak N’ Save, and Pavilions stores in California; Dominick’s stores in Illinois; Genuardi’s stores in New Jersey and Pennsylvania; and Randalls and Tom Thumb stores located in Texas.

Salmonella infection can have adverse affects on pets and humans. Signs of infection in pets include lethargic behavior, lessened or loss of appetite, abdominal pain, fever, and diarrhea. If pet owners think they or their pets have been exposed to or become infected with Salmonella, they should contact a veterinarian or health professional.
