Pet Center, Inc., operating out of Los Angeles, California, issued a recall of its Lamb Crunchy’s dog treats on May 27, 2014. The recall was issued after the Department of Agriculture of the State of Colorado detected the presence of the Salmonella bacteria in a random sample.
The recall was issued for 3-oz bags of Lamb Crunchy’s dog treats with a product code LAM-003, UPC number 727348200038, and a “best by” code of 122015. The affected product was sold Gelson’s® Market, General Pet Supply, Nor-Sky Pet Supply, and Independent Pet Supply stores in California, Colorado, Washington, and Wisconsin.
Contamination with the Salmonella bacteria can cause such symptoms as fever, abdominal cramping, nausea, and diarrhea in animals and humans. Additionally, pets can exhibit lethargic behavior and a loss of appetite. Pet owners should consult a health professional if they think their pets have been exposed to Salmonella.
Pet owners who bought any of the affected product should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Also, they can contact Pet Center, Inc. with any questions at 1-800-390-0575.
