Pet Carousel™, Inc. of Sanger, California, has issued a recall of all Pig Ears and Beef Hoof products manufactured by the facility. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a special press release on this recall on December 9, 2009, which can be found on the FDA website.
The affected products include pig ear products packaged under the brand names Pet Carousel™, Pork Tasteez™, and Doggie Delight™. Also included are beef hooves products under the brand names Pet Carousel™, Choo Hooves™, Dentley’s™, and Doggie Delights™.
The reasons for the recall are due to possible Salmonella contamination, which can affect both humans and animals who come into contact with the product, items containing it, or others infected by it. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, and bloody stool, though not everyone infected shows these symptoms.
Consumers who think they or their pets have come into contact with Salmonella bacteria or show symptoms should seek the help of health professional immediately. Consumers who have purchased these products should stop using them immediately as well.
To lodge a complaint with the FDA, consumers should contact the consumer complaint coordinator in their area. They can also take any of the affected product to any PetSmart™ store for a full refund or exchange.
They can also contact PetSmart™ Customer Service at 1-888-839-9638 for additional information.
