The makers of the Pedigree® brand of dog food, Mars® Petcare US, issued a recall of 22 bags of Pedigree® Adult Complete Nutrition dry dog food on August 26, 2014. Small metal fragments were found within the bags of dry dog food, and while the fragments were not embedded in the food itself, the company issued a recall due to the risk of injury the pieces represented if consumed by pets.
The production line at the plant, where the product was produced, was shut down until company officials could fix the situation.
The product in question were 15-lb bags of Pedigree® Adult Complete Nutrition dry dog food with a lot code of 432C1KKM03 and a “best by” date of 8/5/15. Both the lot code and the “best by” date can be found at the bottom of the bag close to the UPC code.
The affected bags of dry dog food were sold at Dollar General® stores in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The affected product was sold between August 18 and August 15, 2014, in 12 Dollar General locations in the above-mentioned states.
