Nutri-Vet®, LLC has issued a recall of the company’s Nutri-Vet® and NutriPet® Chicken Jerky treats on February 20, 2013. The cause for the recall was due to the potential for Salmonella contamination after a manufacturer of one of the products ingredients informed the company of the presence of Salmonella at the manufacturing plant.
Salmonella can cause fever, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain in pets. Humans can also become infected through contact with infected pets and contaminated products. Immediate medical attention should be sought if pet owners believe they or their pets have become infected with Salmonella.
The affected products come in clear plastic bags and were distributed nationwide in retail stores or online from April 2012 to February 2013. The “best by” dates on the products range from April 20, 2014 to October 3, 2014. The affected products, including Item number and UPC code, can be found on the table below.
