Nature’s Variety® has expanded an earlier recall of the company’s Chicken Formula Raw Frozen Diets to include products with a “Best if Used By” date of 10/29/10 and 11/9/10. The original recall only affected those products with a best by date of 11/10/10.
The affected products are being recalled due to contamination with Salmonella bacteria. The products affected by the expanded recall include Chicken Formula 0.75-lb Trial Sized Medallions UPC 769949601319, 3-lb Chicken Medallions UPC 769949601302, 6-lb Chicken Patties UPC 769949601203, and 2-lb Chicken Chubs UPC 769949601210. All of these products have a “Best if Used By” date of 10/29/10 or 11/9/10.
Additionally, Nature’s Variety® is further expanding this recall to include all Chicken Formula and Organic Chicken Formula Raw Frozen Diets for both cats and dogs with any “Best if Used By” date including 2/5/11 or before. This recall is an attempt to remove these products from the market as the company implements a new state-of-the-art process to help alleviate any future contamination.
These products include Chicken Formula 0.75-lb Trial Sized Medallions UPC 769949601319, 3-lb Chicken Medallions UPC 769949601302, 6-lb Chicken Patties UPC 769949601203, 2-lb Chicken Chubs UPC 769949601210, and 12-lb Case of Chubs UPC 769949501213. Contamination from Salmonella bacteria can cause diarrhea, fever, and abdominal problems in infected humans and pets. If this is the case, seek medical help from a veterinarian or health professional. Consumers can also return affected products to their retailer for a replacement or full refund.
