A voluntary recall was issued for a dog treats product manufactured by Kasel Associated Industries, based in Denver, Colorado, on October 3, 2012. Possible Salmonella contamination of the product spurred the recall.
The specific product included in the recall was Nature’s Deli Chicken Jerky Dog Treats in 2.5-lb bags, with UPC code 647263800208 and a “best by” date of 091913 DEN. The recalled product was sold at over 57 Sam’s Club stores in the states of Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming.
Signs of Salmonella infection to look for in pets include lethargic activity, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. If pet owners think their pets have come into contact with products contaminated with Salmonella and show these symptoms, they should take them to their veterinarian.
Humans can also become infected with Salmonella and should take the added precaution of washing their hands thoroughly after touching pet food and its packaging. If pet owners feel they have been infected, they should seek medical advice as well.
Customers who purchased the affected product should return any unused
portion to the retailer from which they bought it for a full refund.
