On August 8, 2011, Merrick® Pet Care of Amarillo, Texas, issued a recall of its Doggie Wishbone™ pet treats. Consisting of 248 cases, the single lot has the item number 29050, a UPC code of 2280829050, a lot number of 11031, and a “best by” date of 1/30/13.
Shipped to retailers and distributors nationwide in the United States, the product is possibly contaminated by Salmonella bacteria. If consumers think they bought some of the affected product, they should dispose of it in a covered trash receptacle. They can also return any product they bought that is affected by the recall to their place of purchase for a full refund.
Care should be taken to not come into contact with the affected product or its container, as this can cause contamination. Common symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain. If consumers or their pest show any of the symptoms of Salmonella infection, they should notify a healthcare provider immediately.
