Kritter’s Kitchen Kreations, LLC issued a voluntary recall of its Joey’s Jerky Chicken Jerky Treats on September 10, 2013, after action was taken by the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
The recall was due to the potential for Salmonella contamination after 21 people in both Merrimack and Hillsborough Counties in New Hampshire came down with the illness. Luckily, no deaths occurred.
The affected product was sold at the following stores:
- America’s Pet
- Blue Seal®
- K9 Kaos
- Osborne’s Agway®
- Sandy’s Pet Food Center
- The Yellow Dogs Barn
All of the above stores involved were located in the New Hampshire area. Confirmation of Salmonella contamination by the New Hampshire Public Health Labs was still pending at the time of the recall.
Salmonella can cause a variety of symptoms in humans and animals, including abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. If exposed to products thought to contain Salmonella, pet owners should seek medical advice for themselves or their pets.
