Including Your Dog on Your Wedding Day
Since pets are so unique to their owners, it’s no wonder that many couples wish that they could have them be a part of their wedding day. However, the truth is that having pets at your wedding does present many challenges. Because of this, couples must get creative about ways that they can make their dogs part of their big day.
Having Your Dog Come to Your Wedding
There are many factors involved in whether having your dog at your wedding is a good idea or not. Where your wedding will be located, the type of venue that it is, and your dog itself must all be considered. Here are a few questions you should ask yourself when deciding if you should have your pet attend your wedding.
- Are the ceremony and reception spaces large enough to accommodate your pet?
- Are pets allowed in both locations?
- Is the event happening within a 2-hour distance from your home?
- Does your dog feel comfortable in new environments?
- Does your dog have any behavior issues around big groups of people?
- Will there be any other animals there that your dog may be tempted to chase?
- Do you have a guest you can designate to care for your pet while you cannot?
If you answered “no” to several of these questions, it may be a better idea to not bring your pet to your wedding. Not to worry, if this is the case, there are several other ways you can still include them in your celebration.
Have a Petsitter Bring Them for a Visit
Just because they aren’t going to be there all day doesn’t mean they can’t stop by for a few minutes. Why not have a petsitter bring them over for a brief visit to your reception venue? You can take this opportunity to include your pet in some of your wedding photos.
Mention Them in Your Ceremony or Reception
One of the easiest ways to pay tribute to your precious pet is to mention them at your reception or wedding ceremony. People that know and love you will smile at the reference to your furry family member that couldn’t make it to the ceremony.
Hang Photos of Them in Your Venue
If your pet is of the canine variety, why not incorporate photos of your dog into your wedding décor somehow? Consider dressing up your pup in a doggie tux or something else that is fun. Hang photos of your pup in random places around your reception area to spark conversation and add a bit of fun.
