While we love our dogs, we might not always have an area that’s just for them. If you’ve been considering how to design a cozy space for your dog, look no further!
Today, we will discuss how to make a space your dog can call their own.
How to Design a Cozy Space for Your Dog
The truth is that designing a cozy space for your dog is as much for them as it is for you. Your dog might not appreciate all the nice aesthetic touches you add to their space, but at least you can invite friends over without them seeing all your dog’s toys and big bins of dry food.
Your dog will enjoy the space you make for them but remember that they’re not really going to care about the art of the color scheme. That’s where you, the human, get to have some fun with your dog’s space. This gives you the opportunity to make a nice space for your pooch, but you also get to tie their area into your house design as well.
Choosing the Space
When trying to set up a cozy space for your dog, the first thing to think about is going to be where this space goes. Are you going to set aside a corner of your office for them? Or maybe you spend a lot of time in the garage and you want them to have their comfy corner there. If you can swing it, you might even give your dog a room for themselves!
Whatever you choose to do, make sure you do some measuring first to make sure you can deck the room out the way you’d like. If you have a small dog like a Pomeranian, they’re not going to need as much space. But if you’re living with a little bear, you’ll have to set aside a good amount of room for them.
Also, if you are considering a new dog, be sure to measure out how much space you have already so you can consider what kind of dog you’ll get. Dogs need a lot of space. Consider where you’ll store their food, toys, and their crate. If you’re an apartment dweller, you’ll certainly need to know what the maximum footprint you can designated to your new dog and that can give you an idea of what kinds of breeds you can consider.
Choosing the Furniture
When you’re considering furniture for Fido, this is where you can let your creative juices flow. You can absolutely look around at a local store or online retailer for furniture meant for dogs. Or if you’re a bit more of a DIYer, you can try tackling it yourself.
Your dog will probably feel right at home with a bed that’s near you. If you work at home in your own office, try to carve out a space there so they can be near where you spend most of your time. You can even consider using just a blanket that’s been folded a few times. This will give your dog a nice cushion, but if they’re a digger they’ll appreciate being able to burrow in the blanket a bit.
You can also consider making their crate their “bedroom.” it might help to make their crate slightly oversized and placing a comfy bed in there. Your dog will know they are safe in their crate and will want to spend as much time relaxing in there as they like.
Choosing the Accessories
What does your dog like? When it comes to accessories: toys, food, bowls, and such, there are so many styles to choose from! Even an ID can add to the aesthetic of your dog’s special space.
For ID tags, you can add your dog’s name and choose from a variety of styles and colors. That way, they will look great and when they get lost, can make their way back to you!
Dog and drink bowls are easily stylized for your dog’s space too. Ceramic, metal and plastic bowls come in all shapes and sizes.
Lastly, chew toys are a wonderful and necessary accessory. Dogs need stimulation. If you have ever been to a pet shop, you know there’s no lack of options available!
Be Creative
Last (but not least), be creative and have fun designing a space for your dog. If you are lucky enough to have a space to devote to their comfort, you’ll greatly increase their happiness.
