Hill’s® Pet Nutrition recalled 62 bags of its Science Diet® Adult Small & Toy Breed dry dog food. The reason for the recall was due to potential contamination by the Salmonella bacteria.

Affected products include:

  • 15.5-lb bags of Science Diet® Adult Small & Toy Breed dry dog food with SKU number 9097, production code M094, and “best by” date of 08 2015.

Customers can find the SKU at the bottom of the bag, on the back below the UPC code, and both side panels. Pet owners can find the “best by” date and production code on the top-center of the bag.

The Salmonella bacteria can cause a variety of symptoms in both pets and their owners, including abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, and diarrhea. In addition, pets can also suffer loss of appetite and lethargic behavior. Pet owners should seek medical attention if they think they or their pets have been exposed to Salmonella and show the above symptoms.

The first thing pet owners should do if they bought any of the affected product is to discontinue use immediately. Next, they can call Hill’s® Pet Nutrition at 1-800-455-5777 to arrange a pickup of the unused portion of product. The customer will also receive a full refund.
