Great Life™ Performance Pet Products™ sent out a notice on April 30, 2013, to withhold some of its products from distribution to customers. The reasoning behind this decision was an issue with the product not staying fresh up to the “best by” date.
While the product has tested negative for such bacteria as Salmonella and E.coli, as well as other micro-toxins and toxins, the company decided to recall the product from its distributors. The affected products include Great Life™ Grain Free Buffalo and Dr. E’s Grain Free Buffalo products.
The source of the odor is unknown, but Great Life™ feels it is best if pet owners refrain from feeding their pets this product. While not technically a recall, some of the product might have made it into the hands of consumers.
If pet owners bought any of the affected products, they should dispose of any unused portions. They should also look out for gastrointestinal distress in pets that might have eaten these products. Pet owners should contact the retailer from which they purchased the product to ask about a refund or exchange.
To lodge a complaint about an FDA-regulated food product,
pet owners should contact their area consumer complaint coordinator.
