Boss Pet Products, Inc. has issued a recall of its Diggers® Natural Treat Pig Ear pet treats on May 17, 2011. Operating out of Maple Heights, Ohio, the company shipped the recalled products to distributors in the states of Alabama, California, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Washington.
The recall is due to the reported infection with the Salmonella bacteria of one dog located in Missouri. Boss Pet Products™ has been working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to determine the cause of the contamination and which of its products have been contaminated.
The affected products include Diggers® Natural Chews Pig Ears 100-count boxes of Bulk Pig Ears, UPC 072929000386; 50-count boxes, UPC 072929991202; 2-pack bags shipped in cases of 12 bags, UPC 072929995040; 4-pack bags shipped in cases of 12 bags, UPC 072929002274; and 8-pack bags shipped in cases of 12 bags, UPC 072929995842.
Salmonella can cause a variety of symptoms in humans and animals infected with it, including fever, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and abdominal pain, among others. If customers think they or their pets have been infected with Salmonella, they should seek medical treatment as soon as possible.
Customers can return any unused portion of the recalled products
they purchased to the retailer they bought them from for a full refund.
