Diamond® Pet Foods expanded its recall to include additional products on May 18, 2012. These products include the Diamond Naturals® Small Breed Adult Dog Lamb and Rice Formula 6- and 18-lb bags, as well as samples of these products that were manufactured on 8/26/11.

Specific production codes of the product include DSL0801 with a “best by” date of 20-Oct-2-12, DSL0801 with a “best by” date of 26-Aug-2012, DSL0801 with a “best by” date of 27-Sept-2012, DSL0801 with a “best by” date of 18-Oct-2012, and DSL0801 in-sample sizes.

The affected products were shipped to locations in the states of Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin, though further distribution may have occurred from these locations.

The pet food was recalled due to possible contamination by Salmonella bacteria. Symptoms of Salmonella infection among pets include decreased appetite, abdominal pain, and fever, with lethargy, diarrhea, and vomiting also present if left untreated.

Humans can also become infected and show signs of fever, abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you think you or your pets have been infected with Salmonella, you should seek medical help immediately.
