In an expansion of an earlier recall, Diamond® Pet Foods has added some products from their Diamond® Puppy Formula dry dog food to the list. The updated recall was issued on April 30, 2012, after sampling revealed the probability of the Salmonella bacteria in the affected product.
The various Diamond® Puppy Formula dry dog food products affected include 40-lb bags with production code DDP0401B22XJW and DPP0401A21XAW, both with “best by” date 6-Apr-2013; 40-lb bags with production code DPP0101C31XME and “best by” date of 11-Jan-2013; and 40-lb bags with production code DPP0401B21XDJ and “best by” date of 7-Apr-2013.
The recall additionally includes 20-lb bags with production code DPP0401B22XJW and “best by” date of 6-Apr-2013; 20-lb bags with production codes DPP0101C31XME and DPP0101C31XRB with a “best by” date of 11-Jan-2013; 8-lb bags with production code DPP0401B2XALW and “best by” date of 7-Apr-2013; and 6-oz samples with production code DPP0401.
The recalled items were distributed to a variety of states across the U.S., including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Additionally, the product may have been distributed to pet food stores in other states.
Pets infected with Salmonella show signs of lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Humans can also be infected and show similar symptoms. If you think you or your pet have been infected with Salmonella, seek medical help immediately.
