On May 5, 2012, Diamond® Pet Foods expanded an earlier recall to include nine batches of its dry pet food formulas. The recall was a precautionary measure that included batches of dry pet food formulas made between the dates of 12/9/11 and 4/7/12.
Possible Salmonella contamination is cited as the reason for the recall. Specific brands included in the expanded recall are Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul, Country Value®, Diamond®, Diamond Naturals®, Premium Edge®, Professional®, 4Health™, and Taste of the Wild®. To determine which of the above brands products are covered by the recall, check the production code on the back of the packaging. Bags that have the numbers “2” or “3” in the 9th position and “X” in the 10th or 11th position, plus fall within the “best by” dates of 12/9/12 through 4/7/13, are a part of the recall.
The states that received the above recalled products include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, as well as the country of Canada.
If your pet is suffering from the symptoms of Salmonella — which include lethargic behavior, diarrhea, vomiting, and fever — seek the help of a veterinarian.
