Diamond® Pet Foods expanded an earlier recall of some of its products shipped from the company’s Gaston, South Carolina, plant. Issued on April 26, 2012, the recall was updated to include certain products of Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul™ Adult Light Formula dry dog food.
The reason for the recall was due to possible contamination from Salmonella bacteria. One bag of the product tested positive for the bacteria, so the recall of four production codes was carried out. The affected products include 35-lb bags of Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul™ Adult Light Formula with production code CLF0102B21XCW and “best by” date of 27/JAN/2013, as well as production codes CLF0102B31XWC and CLF0102B32XWR, both with a “best by” date of 28/JAN/2013.
In addition to the above items, 6-lb bags of Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul™ Adult Light Formula with production code CLF0102B3XALW and “best by” date of 28/JAN/2013 are also included in the recall.
The products being recalled were distributed in the states of Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia, though distributors might have shipped the product to locations in other states.
Salmonella in pets can cause them to have a loss of appetite, abdominal pain, or fever. In advanced stages, Salmonella infection causes lethargy, diarrhea, bloody stool, vomiting, and fever. If your pet shows these symptoms, then contact your veterinarian.
