The Cockapoo is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. It can also be the offspring of two Cockapoos mixed together. It is one of the first planned hybrid dogs that became available in the 50’s. It is small enough to cuddle with but big enough to play with other dogs. Ranging from 6 to 30 pounds, one Cockapoo can look very different from another. Its size, color, coat type, temperament and activity level will depend on what traits the puppy has gotten from each side of the coin. Some are fluffy, where others have scruffy hair. They can also have curly hair, like the poodle.
Personality
This affectionate dog is said to accept everyone, including other dogs and cats. They are one of the happiest breeds of dog you will find. Companion dogs, Cockapoos need to live inside the home and never outdoors. Easy to train, the Cockapoo is friendly and people oriented. A natural hunting dog, the Cockapoo needs regular activity to not become bored.
Grooming
A Cockapoo doesn’t need as much grooming as Poodles do; however some require more than others. The Cockapoo’s ears should be kept clean and dry. Wash her face every day, carefully wiping the eye area to remove the reddish-brown tear stains that tend to develop. Dog owners need to trim the genital area of a Cockapoo to keep him clean. You may also choose to have a groomer shave his lower belly. Those that have a coat which is curlier like the poodle will need to be groomed every 4 to 6 weeks. All Cockapoos need to be brushed daily in order to prevent the hair from matting.
