Bravo!® issued a recall of select lots of its pet food on May 14, 2014. The recall was issued because of the potential contamination of the product by the bacterium Listeria Monocytogenes.
The following products were a part of the recall:
- All 2-, 5-, and 10-lb tubes of Raw Food Diet Bravo!® Beef Blend for Dogs and Cats with a product number of 52-102, 52-105, and 52-110 — as well as a “best by” date of 10/10/15 or earlier.
- 3-lb boxes with 12-count 4-oz burgers of Bravo!® Balance Premium Turkey Formula with a product number of 31-401 and “best by” dates of 1/07/16 and 2/11/16.
In addition, the following products are being recalled out of an abundance of caution:
- Raw Food Diet Bravo!® Lamb Blend for Dogs and Cats in 2-, 5-, and 10-lb tubes with product numbers 42-102, 42-102, and 42-110 — with a “best by” date of 10/10/15 or earlier
- Raw Food Diet Bravo!® Lamb Basic for Dogs and Cats in 2-lb tubes with product number 42-202 and with a “best by” date of 10/10/15 or earlier
- Raw Food Diet Bravo!® Beef and Beef Hearts for Dogs and Cats in 5-lb tubes with product number 53-130 and a “best by” date of 10/10/15 or earlier
- Raw Food Diet Bravo!® 100% Pure & Natural Premium Grass-Fed Buffalo for Dogs and Cats in 2-lb tubes with product number 72-222and a “best by” date of 1/7/16
- Bravo!® Turkey Balance Formula in 2-lb tubes with product number 31-402 and a “best by” date of 1/7/16
- 5-lb tubes of Bravo!® Turkey Balance Formula with product number 31-405 and “best by” dates of 1/7/16 and 2/11/16
- Raw Food Diet Bravo!® Lamb Blend for Dogs and Cats in 5-lb tubes with product number 42-105 and “best by” date of 2/11/16.
All of the products were distributed nationwide through retail stores and online sales.
Pets infected with Listeria show symptoms such as fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Humans can also become infected and show similar symptoms. Infection is most likely to occur in children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. Pet owners who think that their pets are infected with Listeria should contact a veterinarian.
Those who bought the recalled product can return it to the point of purchase and submit a Product Recall Claim Form obtained on the Bravo!® Website for a full refund.
