On July 2, 2015, Boulder Dog Food Company™ recalled specific lots of its Turkey Sprinkles Food Enhancer. The reason behind the recall was possible contamination of the product with the Salmonella bacteria.
Limited to 3-oz bags of the company’s Turkey Sprinkles Food Enhancer, the recalled product has a lot number of 743 and a UPC code of 899883001224. In addition the affected lots have “best by” dates of 05/18/2016, 05/28/2016, and 05/30/2016.
The recall was initiated because of a positive test for Salmonella by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) while performing routine sampling of the product in question. There was also one complaint from a pet owner who had contact with the affected product. The UPC code can be found on the front of the bag, while the lot number and “best by” date are located on the back of the clear packaging.
Salmonella can cause a variety of symptoms in pets and their owners, including fever, diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, and vomiting. Additionally, pets can exhibit sluggish behavior and loss of appetite. If pet owners believe they or their pets have been exposed to Salmonella, they should seek medical advice as soon as possible.
Consumers can return unused portions of the product to the company or their retailer for a full refund. Additionally, if pet owners want to contact Boulder Dog Food Company™, they can do so by phone at 1-303-449-2540.
