Bil-Jac® Foods withdrew a limited number of its dry kibble products on August 24, 2012. The reason behind the withdrawal was the possible presence of mold, also called mycotoxins. Some of the more commonly known mycotoxins are aflotoxin and vomitoxins.
The affected product includes 6-lb packages of the company’s Bil-Jac® Adult Select Formula dry dog food. The lot code on the product is 1792-02, and it has a “best by” date of December 27, 2013.
While mold in pet food is an often harmless by-product of naturally occurring fungi found in pet food, high levels of mycotoxins can be harmful to pets. Some of the side effects of exposure to high levels of mycotoxins include digestive disturbances. However, in more severe cases, exposure can kill pets sensitive to the mold.
To find out more about the product withdrawal, customers can reach Bi-Jac® Foods via phone at 1-800-321-1002.
