Selecting the Best Pet Stairs

Last Updated July 2019

Picking out the right pet stairs will make life a whole lot easier for you and your doggie. Pet stairs make tall places more accessible to smaller dogs, short-legged breeds and senior dogs.

There are several things to consider when you are picking out the right dog steps. They are available in different sizes and designs to accommodate all breeds. Some are able to be folded and stored away, others are not. Some are more pretty to look at than others. Some are soft and squishy, others are soft and plush.

The best thing that you can do is pay attention to how your dog handles going up and down regular stairs. In their everyday lives. If they handle these stairs well, try to get stairs that mimic them the best that you can.

If you have a larger dog, get a set of stairs that has a fewer number of stairs with a higher rise. On the other hand, a teacup breed dog would need a set of stairs with a low rise.

Size, Weight and Height

The stairs need to be specific to the needs of your dog. They should be high enough to reach the height that you desire, and should have enough steps for your dog to manage using them.

Functionality

Be sure that the steps suit their function, as they are designed for a purpose. For example, stairs for the car will need to stand up to outdoor use, as well as anti-slip conditions.

For the bedroom, stairs can be plusher, fabric-covered, and can be less durable. Stairs that are being used for the car should be able to be transported easily. Those used in the bedroom should be able to be easily stored away when they aren’t being used.
