Bailey’s Choice Dog Treats LLC, based out of Waleska, Georgia, recalled some of its dog treats on November 1, 2013. The reason behind the recall was due to the potential for contamination of the product by the Salmonella bacteria.

The particular products that were part of the recall include packages of chicken treats that have the lot dates of June 5 and October 8, 2013. In addition, the recall includes packages in a variety of sizes. The recall was issued after two lots of the product tested positive for Salmonella.

The Georgia Department of Agriculture worked with company officials to make sure all of the affected products were properly recalled. This included checking retail and warehouse locations to make sure all of the products were accounted for.

Salmonella can cause loss of appetite and lethargic behavior in pets. Humans can also become infected with the bacteria through exposure to infected pets and contaminated items. Additional symptoms that can be present in both humans and pets include fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. If pet owners or their pets show any of these symptoms, they should seek medical advice.

Bailey’s Choice Dog Treats LLC will give a full refund to any pet owners who bought the recalled product. Pet owners can reach the company by phone at 1-770-881-0526 or via email. Pet owners can also find out more by visiting the company website.
