Breeder’s Choice® Pet Food recalled one of its AvoDerm products on September 11, 2012. The reason for the recall was due to the possibility of contamination of the product by Salmonella bacteria.

The recalled product was shipped to retailers and distributors in California, Georgia, Illinois, Nevada, Virginia, and Washington. The affected product includes 26-lb bags of a single batch of Breeder’s Choice® AvoDerm Natural Lamb Meal & Brown Rice Adult dog food formula with product code 100065074, UPC 052907020438, and with “best by” dates of 28 Aug 2013, 29 Aug 2013, and 30 Aug 2013.

Pets infected with Salmonella show sighs of appetite loss, fever, lethargy, stomach pain, and diarrhea and should be taken to a veterinarian for treatment. Humans can also become infected through contact with contaminated product or packaging, as well as through contact with infected pets.

Breeder’s Choice® Pet Food sent a letter explaining the recall 
and giving instructions as to what to do with any of the affected product.
