On February 5, 2014, Pro-Pet® LLC announced a recall of some of its dry dog and cat food. The reason for the recall was due to potential contamination of the product by Salmonella bacteria. This was determined after a single field test by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) indicated the potential for contamination among products manufactured on the same production line within a two-day period. Bailey’s Choice Dog Treats LLC expanded its earlier recall of some of its chicken dog treats on November 6, 2013. The recall was issued due to the potential presence of Salmonella bacteria in the product. Bailey’s Choice Dog Treats LLC, based out of Waleska, Georgia, recalled some of its dog treats on November 1, 2013. The reason behind the recall was due to the potential for contamination of the product by the Salmonella bacteria. The particular products that were part of the recall include packages of chicken treats that have the lot dates of June 5 and October 8, 2013. Kritter’s Kitchen Kreations, LLC issued a voluntary recall of its Joey’s Jerky Chicken Jerky Treats on September 10, 2013, after action was taken by the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Dogswell® and Catswell® Recalls Dog and Cat Jerky Treats

On July 26, 2013, Arthur Dogswell LLC voluntarily withdrew specific items of its Dogswell® and Catswell® duck and jerky treats. The reason for the recall was because of the possible presence of antibiotics not approved for use in the United States. The recall was issued after it was learned that the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets (NYSDAM) found trace amounts of the unauthorized antibiotic while testing samples of the product. While the antibiotic in question is legal to use in China, where the product was made, U.S. officials prohibit its use.
