Apex™ Pet Foods issued a recall for two of its products on May 4, 2012. The products in question were recalled due to potential contamination by Salmonella bacteria.
The affected products include:
- Apex™ 40- and 20-lb bags of Chicken and Rice Dog Food, production code ACD0101B32 with a “best by” date of 24-Jan-2013.
The recalled products were only distributed in South Carolina.
This recall is part of a wider recall for products produced in Diamond® Pet Foods Gaston, South Carolina, plant. Apex™ Pet Foods worked with its distributors and retailers to make sure all of the affected product was removed from its shelves.
Salmonella infection in pets has the symptoms of lethargy, reduced appetite, diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain. Humans can also become infected through contact with their pets, contaminated food, or even packaging. If you suspect that either you or your pet have become infected with the Salmonella bacteria, seek medical attention as soon as possible.
