The Robert Abady Dog Food Company issued a recall of two of the company’s frozen dog food items on June 19, 2013. The recall was issued after a test of a sample by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) turned up positive for Salmonella bacteria.
The product that was a part of the recall included uncoded 3-lb chubs of Abady Frozen High Stress/High Performance Dog Food and Abady Frozen Growth Formula for Puppies of the Large and Giant Breed. The affected products were shipped to retailers and kennels in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.
Salmonella can cause a variety of symptoms in infected pets and humans, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (including bloody diarrhea), abdominal cramping, and fever. Additionally, infected pets can display lethargic or sluggish behavior, as well as loss of appetite.
Pet owners who think they or their pets have been infected with the Salmonella bacteria should seek medical attention.
Pet owners should return any unused portions of the recalled product to
their place of purchase for a refund or replacement.
